This is your second writing assignment in the semester.  You are now able to review and assess a population’s health care disparities by conducting an assessment of the population by looking at the population through the lens of a cultural competency model.  You are able to do this because you completed two very important assignments during the first part of the semester that included assessing your cultural competency and identifying a cultural competency model that you can use as a framework to identify health care disparities in populations.

In this second writing assignment you will build on your first writing assignment.  Select one of the multicultural populations that you have learned about in your Multicultural Health text book.  Assess the MENTAL health care disparities that are prevalent in the population you select.  Identify three (3) major mental health disparities.

Research the literature to find information that supports these disparities exist and make sure to provide references to this evidence in your paper using APA citations.  Describe three (3) major barriers that are specific to this population and lead to the specific mental health care disparities that you find.

Select and describe three (3) current strategies supported by the literature to address these barriers.  Research the literature for information on the population’s current environment, access to mental health care services and the quality of their mental health outcomes.  Include a summary that provides your reader with a strong message you want them to remember related to the strong evidence that exist showing the populations mental health care disparities and the need to address these disparities.

This second writing assignment takes your first writing assignment a step forward as you are now moving to the important step of addressing health care disparities and focus on improving the population’s environment, access to mental health care services, and the quality of mental health outcomes.

• Conduct a search of the literature and regulatory agencies and bodies to identify mental health care disparities in this population and strategies to address these disparities related to the environment, access to mental health care services, and quality health outcomes
• Start your paper by creating a cover sheet with the same information you provided on your cover sheet in your first paper
• Set up the paper in Applying the Evidence APA format and use APA formatting for citations and references
